Boreal Beast is a late-season haskap variety developed in Canada as part of the University of Saskatchewan’s Boreal Series, bred specifically for cold climates and high fruit production. This variety is known for its strong growth habit, excellent cold hardiness, and large, flavorful berries that ripen toward the end of the haskap season, extending harvest time for growers.

The plant produces elongated, deep blue berries with a firm texture and rich, balanced flavor that combines sweetness with mild tartness. Boreal Beast berries are well suited for fresh eating, smoothies, jams, baking, and freezing. The fruit holds well on the plant compared to earlier varieties, making harvesting easier and more forgiving.

Boreal Beast grows as a vigorous, upright shrub that develops into a dense bush over time. Mature plants typically reach about 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, creating a productive hedge-style planting when grown alongside compatible pollinators. Like all haskaps, Boreal Beast requires cross-pollination to produce fruit and performs best when planted with other late-blooming Boreal varieties such as Boreal Beauty or Boreal Blizzard.

This variety is extremely winter hardy and thrives in northern climates where many traditional fruit crops struggle. It also adapts well to a wide range of soil types as long as drainage is good.

How we ship

Most orders go out via UPS with a 2-3 day transit time to most of the continental U.S. Plants are shipped dormant in late winter / early spring, packed wet to protect the root systems, and bundled by variety so they're ready to plant on arrival.

Hawaii & Alaska orders

For HI and AK addresses we ship via USPS. The other major carriers either don't service these areas for live plants or charge prohibitive rates that would more than double the cost of your order. USPS gives us a reliable, affordable path to get plants to you in good condition.

Want UPS or FedEx anyway?

If you're in HI or AK and want to use UPS or FedEx and cover the upgraded shipping cost, reach out to us immediately after placing your order with your order number. We'll send you the available options and a quote, and you can pick what works for you.

Wholesale orders (100+ plants): We only ship wholesale orders on Mondays and Tuesdays. Larger orders sitting in a hot delivery truck over a weekend can damage or even kill the plants, especially for customers in the southern half of the U.S. Shipping early in the week ensures your plants reach you before any weekend transit delays.
