Indigo Treat is a cold-hardy haskap variety developed through the University of Saskatchewan breeding program, known for reliable production, strong plant vigor, and sweet, flavorful berries. It is one of the most widely planted honeyberry varieties because it performs consistently across a wide range of climates and produces fruit early in the growing season when few other berries are ready.

This variety produces elongated, dark blue berries with a smooth skin and firm texture. The flavor is often described as a blend of blueberry, raspberry, and black currant, offering a balanced sweet-tart taste that works well for fresh eating, smoothies, jams, baking, and freezing. Fruit ripens early to mid-season, typically from late spring into early summer depending on climate, helping extend harvest season ahead of strawberries and blueberries.

Indigo Treat grows as an upright, compact shrub with a rounded crown and moderate branching structure. Mature plants generally reach about 4 to 6 feet tall and wide, making them easy to manage in backyard plantings or small orchard rows. Plants begin producing fruit relatively quickly, often within 2 to 3 years after planting under good growing conditions.

Like all haskaps, Indigo Treat benefits from cross-pollination. Planting it alongside compatible varieties such as Aurora, Honey Bee, or Indigo Gem significantly improves berry size and yields. The plant is extremely winter hardy, tolerating temperatures as low as −40°F, and its early blooms show good resistance to spring frosts compared to many fruit crops.

Indigo Treat is also valued for being low maintenance. It adapts to many soil types as long as drainage is good and typically experiences few pest or disease issues, making it a strong choice for both beginner gardeners and experienced growers.

What a precious little plant in a lovely package.

We ship via: UPS USPS FedEx

How we ship

Most orders go out via UPS with a 2-3 day transit time to most of the continental U.S. Plants are shipped dormant in late winter / early spring, packed wet to protect the root systems, and bundled by variety so they're ready to plant on arrival.

Hawaii & Alaska orders

For HI and AK addresses we ship via USPS. The other major carriers either don't service these areas for live plants or charge prohibitive rates that would more than double the cost of your order. USPS gives us a reliable, affordable path to get plants to you in good condition.

Want UPS or FedEx anyway?

If you're in HI or AK and want to use UPS or FedEx and cover the upgraded shipping cost, reach out to us immediately after placing your order with your order number. We'll send you the available options and a quote, and you can pick what works for you.

Wholesale orders (100+ plants): We only ship wholesale orders on Mondays and Tuesdays. Larger orders sitting in a hot delivery truck over a weekend can damage or even kill the plants, especially for customers in the southern half of the U.S. Shipping early in the week ensures your plants reach you before any weekend transit delays.
