Misty Blueberry is a southern highbush variety that produces abundant crops of large, firm, flavorful berries with a slightly tart finish. It is a consistent producer and is popular in warmer climates where northern highbush varieties struggle. Misty thrives in acidic, well-drained soil and full sun, and benefits from cross-pollination with another southern highbush variety for best yields.

Mature spread: About 3 to 4 feet, upright and bushy

Fruit: Medium to large, light to medium blue berries, firm, sweet, and flavorful

Fruiting season: Early season, typically late spring to early summer in warm climates

Foliage: Attractive blue green leaves, often taking on some red tones in cooler weather

Pollination: Partially self fertile, but yields and berry size are much better with another southern highbush variety that blooms at the same time

Growing requirements

Light: Full sun for the heaviest crops and best sweetness

Soil: Acidic, well drained soil rich in organic matter, ideal pH around 4.5 to 5.5

Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially in the first year and while berries are forming, but avoid waterlogged soil

Mulch: A thick layer of pine bark, wood chips, or pine needles helps keep roots cool and soil acidic

Spacing: Plant about 4 to 5 feet apart in rows or beds so each shrub can fill out

Fertilizer: Feed in early spring with a fertilizer made for acid loving plants, and lightly again after harvest if growth is slow

Pruning: In late winter, remove weak or crossing branches and some older canes to keep the bush open and productive

We ship via: UPS USPS FedEx

How we ship

Most orders go out via UPS with a 2-3 day transit time to most of the continental U.S. Plants are shipped dormant in late winter / early spring, packed wet to protect the root systems, and bundled by variety so they're ready to plant on arrival.

Hawaii & Alaska orders

For HI and AK addresses we ship via USPS. The other major carriers either don't service these areas for live plants or charge prohibitive rates that would more than double the cost of your order. USPS gives us a reliable, affordable path to get plants to you in good condition.

Want UPS or FedEx anyway?

If you're in HI or AK and want to use UPS or FedEx and cover the upgraded shipping cost, reach out to us immediately after placing your order with your order number. We'll send you the available options and a quote, and you can pick what works for you.

Wholesale orders (100+ plants): We only ship wholesale orders on Mondays and Tuesdays. Larger orders sitting in a hot delivery truck over a weekend can damage or even kill the plants, especially for customers in the southern half of the U.S. Shipping early in the week ensures your plants reach you before any weekend transit delays.
