Triple Crown Planting Instructions
- Plant timing: plant in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked, or in fall in mild climates if the plant is dormant.
- Prep the site: choose full sun with well-drained soil. Remove weeds and loosen the soil 10 to 12 inches deep.
- Hydrate the roots: take the plant out of the package and soak the roots in a bucket of water for 1 to 2 hours. Do not soak overnight.
- Trim if needed: snip off any broken roots. If the cane is long or damaged, you can cut it back to about 6 to 12 inches to reduce stress.
- Dig the hole: make it wide enough to spread roots without bending them, and deep enough so the crown sits at soil level. A good target is roughly 8 to 10 inches wide and 6 to 8 inches deep, then adjust based on the root size.
- Make a small mound: put a small cone of soil in the bottom of the hole and drape the roots over it so they spread outward naturally.
- Set planting depth: position the crown so it ends up level with the surrounding soil. Do not bury it deep.
- Backfill carefully: refill the hole with loose soil, working soil in around the roots so there are no big air gaps. Firm gently with your hands.
- Water deeply: water slowly right after planting to settle soil around the roots.
- Mulch: apply 2 to 3 inches of mulch around the plant to hold moisture and block weeds, keeping mulch a couple inches away from the crown.
- Support plan: install a trellis early (posts and 2 wires). Triple Crown is vigorous and will be much easier to manage when trained.
- Aftercare (first 4 to 6 weeks): keep soil evenly moist while it establishes. Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil dry out. Avoid heavy fertilizer until you see new growth, then use a light, balanced feeding if your soil is poor.
- Cane management: in the first growing season, let new canes grow. When they reach about 4 to 5 feet, tip them a few inches to force side branches. Next year, those canes will fruit, and after harvest you cut

I got all 10 bare root but most of them were dead. Only 4 ever got any leaves, the roots seemed dried out. Maybe it was just the ones sent to me, ♀️ idk. The stems were a little yellow too.
